Mumbai: It was Diwali or even bigger than that when India won the ICC World Cup 2011 Finals held at Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. The Dhoni Brigade won this match against Sri Lanka by 6 wickets and turned themselves into 2 times World Champions in Cricket. It was earlier in 1983 when India won the World Cup under the captaincy of Kapil Dev, and after 28 years the history repeated itself and India was crowned as winner of 10th ICC Cricket World Cup.
Indian team was a better side in all the three areas of Cricket in this match, they took Sri Lankan batting in cramp by taking early wickets and restricted a good looking batting side under 300. Sri Lankan team was able to put 274/6 on the board, thanks to Indian bowlers and tight fielding.
Later after losing Sehwag and Sachin Tendulkar in quick succession, Indian team was in trouble when Gautam Gambhir and Virat Kohli built up a partnership which proceeded Indian team above 100 runs. Later Kohli was out and MS Dhoni, the captain of the team entered the ground. With a record partnership between both, Gambhir and Dhoni team India clutched the Victory. Gambhir was out later but Dhoni made the Win look easy with Yuvraj Singh.
