Japanese authorities have warned about unusually high levels of radioactive material in fish caught at 80 kilometers from the Fukushima nuclear plant, which has raised concerns about the consequences of throwing the radioactive water in the ocean, and how this will affect marine life.
The issue could be even more serious considering that the sea is one of the key sources of food in Japan.
According to the government of Ibaraki prefecture, two samples of fish called konago captured in two different places on the coast of the site contained higher levels than allowed.
In the same plant, Tokyo Electric Power Company (TEPCO) said the water has been used to cool the reactor is 5 million times more radioactivity than allowed, what has become one of the major problems to be solved. Friday is expected to release more water into the sea, as there is more room to contain it.
High levels of radioactivity have been found in some vegetables and milk production . The situation of the fish could point to a widespread contamination throughout Japan.source
